     Requires that, by June 30, 1998, private schools approved shall require that all employees who have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children and were hired before July 1, 1997, undergo a record check through the Washington state patrol criminal identification system under RCW 43.43.830 through 43.43.838, 10.97.030, and 10.97.050 and through the federal bureau of investigation.

     Makes an appropriation of five hundred thousand dollars for the biennium ending June 30, 1999, from the general fund to the superintendent of public instruction.
