Title:  An act relating to supervision of juvenile offenders serving terms of confinement.

Brief Description:  Specifying when the department of social and health services is responsible for supervision of juvenile offenders serving terms of confinement.

Background:  Concern exists that county facilities do not have enough bed space to accommodate the number of juvenile offenders currently in the system.

Summary of Bill:  Any term of confinement for an offense exceeding 20 days must be served under the supervision of the Department of Social and Health Services.  If the period of confinement imposed for more than one offense exceeds 20 days but the term imposed for each offense is less than 20 days, the court has discretion to order the term of confinement to be served by the juvenile in a juvenile facility operated by the state.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
