Background:  In 1997, the Legislature enacted SHB 1008 regarding license plate replacement. The legislation prohibited the creation of additional special license plate series, required that all license plates be issued on a standard background by January 1, 2001, and required the Department of Licensing to periodically provide for the replacement of license plates. Commercial vehicles are currently exempt from the standard background replacement requirement.

 

Summary of Bill:  Commercial vehicles are exempt from the requirement for the periodic replacement of license plates.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
