Brief Description:  Creating a Joint Select Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs.

Background:  Concerns exist that more should be done to provide properly for veterans and active members of the military forces as well as National Guard and reserve members.

Summary of Bill:  The Joint Select Committee on Veterans and Military Affairs is created. The committee has 12 members:  (1) three members from each major Senate caucus as appointed by the President of the Senate, and (2) three members from each major House caucus as appointed by the Co-Speakers of the House of Representatives.  Prior to the 2000 legislative session, the committee must examine and define issues and make recommendations to the Governor, the Legislature, and state agencies regarding desirable changes in programs, laws, and administrative practices affecting veterans and military affairs.
