Requesting the office of minority and women's business enterprises to certify socially and economically disadvantaged businesses, including those owned by disabled persons. 


    TO THE DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF MINORITY AND WOMEN'S BUSINESS ENTERPRISES:

    We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:

    WHEREAS, The state has a strong interest in enhancing opportunities for disabled persons who own and control businesses to compete in the free market and support themselves through gainful employment; and

    WHEREAS, The state should encourage fair and equal opportunities for disabled persons who own and control businesses to be awarded public contracts;

    NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists request that the office of minority and women's business enterprises certify businesses owned and controlled by persons who can demonstrate social and economic disadvantage, including persons with a disability who can demonstrate social and economic disadvantage on that basis, as socially and economically disadvantaged business enterprises.

    BE IT RESOLVED, That a copy of this Memorial be transmitted to the director of the office of minority and women's business enterprises.
