WHEREAS, The state of Washington is an area rich with natural resources; and
WHEREAS, The most valuable of these resources is the creativity and innovation of its people; and
WHEREAS, Paul G. Allen is a supporter of these resources through a wide variety of statewide projects through the six Paul G. Allen Foundations; and
WHEREAS, This support was given in part through the Experience Music Project, a $100 million interactive museum dedicated to exploring creativity and innovation through popular music and culture; and
WHEREAS, Paul G. Allen, contributed over twelve million dollars in the past year toward preserving and protecting endangered forest lands, including over 6,000 acres of old growth forest for the study of future generations; and
WHEREAS, Keeping in mind that a hallmark of this state has been innovative education; the Advanced Placement Excellence Program (created by Paul Allen) now enables students whose schools cannot offer Advanced Placement (AP) classes to take an AP class online, for college credit; and
WHEREAS, His dedication to the arts has led to donations to the ACT and Intiman Theatres and the preservation of Belltown=s venerable Cinerama Moviehouse; and
WHEREAS, His own vision of a Awired world@ became one-half of the genesis for Microsoft, a northwest original that has made our state synonymous with cutting edge technology used by well over half the world=s computer systems; and
WHEREAS, His dedication to preserving an important asset for the state of Washington led him to purchase the Seattle Seahawks NFL Franchise; and partner with the people of the state of Washington to build a world-class football/soccer stadium and Exhibition Hall that will be owned and enjoyed by the people of the state of Washington as well as visitors from around the world; and
WHEREAS, Through the development, both directly and indirectly, of thousands of high-tech jobs for the new millenium, and a philanthropy supportive of Washington=s best and brightest; and
WHEREAS, Few have done more to promote this spirit of innovation, whether by lending support or by using their own creative gifts;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate of the state of Washington recognize these most significant contributions to innovation, originating both from a brilliant creative mind and an equally generous spirit, of one Paul G. Allen.
