HB 1197 - DIGEST
Provides that a person filing a declaration and affidavit of candidacy for an office must, at the time of filing, possess the qualifications specified by law for persons who may be elected to the office and, except as provided in RCW 3.46.067 and 3.50.057, must have been properly registered to vote in the geographic area represented by the office for at least one year before the date of filing the declaration and affidavit of candidacy.
Provides that every person who knowingly provides false information on his or her declaration and affidavit of candidacy or petition of nomination for an office is guilty of a class C felony punishable under RCW 9A.20.021.
Provides that regular law enforcement officers of the jurisdiction where a crime established under this act allegedly has occurred, including the sheriff, deputy sheriffs, police chief, police officers, town marshal, and deputy town marshals, are responsible for investigating these alleged crimes.
