Brief Summary of Engrossed Bill

$Members and employees of agricultural commodity commissions created under the Agricultural Enabling Acts may be reimbursed for travel expenses incurred in carrying out official duties as defined in the marketing order of the board or commission.   If such reimbursement is not defined or referenced in the marketing order, travel expenses are reimbursed in the same manner as provided for state employees generally.

Background:

State law allows the director of the Office of Financial Management to prescribe allowances to cover reasonable and necessary subsistence and lodging expenses and mileage rates for reimbursing officials and state employees who are engaged in official business away from their posts of duty.  The Agricultural Enabling Acts of 1955 and 1961, which allow agricultural commodity boards and commissions to be created by marketing orders, allow members of the boards or commissions to be reimbursed for their travel expenses under the rates established by the director for state employees generally.

Summary of Bill:

Members and employees of agricultural commodity commissions created under the Agricultural Enabling Acts may be reimbursed for their actual travel expenses incurred in carrying out their official duties, as defined in the board's or commission's marketing order.  If it is not so defined or referenced in the marketing order, reimbursement is to be the same as provided for state employees generally.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
