Title:  An act relating to shared lottery games.

 

Brief Description:  Authorizing the state lottery to participate in shared games.

Background:  "Shared games" are games such as Powerball in which several states join together to offer a lottery game.  21 states currently participate in Powerball through the multi-state lottery association, and seven states currently participate in "The Big Game," another multi-state lottery game.

 

Current law requires that the Lottery Commission receive permission from the Legislature prior to entering into any agreement with other states to conduct shared games.

 

Summary of Bill:  The Lottery Commission is authorized to take actions necessary to participate with other state lotteries in shared games.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Available.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
