WHEREAS, A number of Washington teachers have taught in other states prior to serving in our state and have earned retirement benefits in both states; and
WHEREAS, The benefits that these teachers will receive upon retirement may be affected by the split in service between several states; and
WHEREAS, The Joint Committee on Pension Policy was established to study pension issues and make recommendations to the legislature;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives of the state of Washington, the Senate concurring, That the Joint Committee on Pension Policy study the issue of teachers who have earned retirement benefits in other states prior to teaching in Washington and may have different benefits than teachers who have taught exclusively in Washington; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Joint Committee on Pension Policy report the results of this study to the legislature during the 2003-2005 fiscal biennium.
