WHEREAS, Basil Badley, a person of influence involving matters of
public interest for over 40 years, has announced that he is retiring
from the representation of clients before the Washington State
Legislature at the end of the current year; and
WHEREAS, Basil Badley's efforts have been uniquely focused on the
representation of his various insurance clients; and
WHEREAS, The effectiveness of these efforts can be readily seen in
what is contained in the insurance code and, in some cases, what is not
contained in the insurance code; and
WHEREAS, Basil Badley's announced retirement has been warmly
received by his many friends and allies; and
WHEREAS, This announcement has been even more warmly received by
his opponents;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate Basil
Badley for the diligent and effective representation of his clients for
these many years; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate expect to hear periodic
reports of Basil Badley's ponderings regarding the Mariners, his
garden, his walks with Riley, his devotions to Mary Margaret, and other
matters of consequence; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate fully expect to see in the
morning clips a marked increase in letters to the editor, op-eds, and
other musings generally expected of one with few responsibilities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate extend its warmest
congratulations to Basil Badley on his retirement from a remarkable
career spent in public service, the private practice of law, and the
representation of clients before the Washington State Legislature; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be
immediately transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Basil Badley.
