Hearing Date: 2/21/05
Staff: Thamas Osborn (786-7129).
Background:
State law requires the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) to reimburse local

Summary of Bill:

justice costs incurred as the result of criminal behavior by the staff of certain institutions
managed by DSHS and which occurs during the course of the employment of such staff. The
maximum dollar amount of reimbursement for criminal investigation costs is limited to the
wages, including fringe benefits, paid to law enforcement personnel investigating the crime.
Appropriation: None.
Fiscal Note: Requested on February 17, 2005.
Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
