WHEREAS, Earnest and hard-working young people in Ira Siebert's
fifth-grade class at View Ridge Elementary School in Everett,
Washington, are continuing their mission to launch an annual
celebration of Marchgivings Day; and
WHEREAS, Founded last year, this View Ridge Elementary School
movement is committed to winning national support for a Marchgivings
Day observance on March 1 every year; and
WHEREAS, This year's fifth-graders in Mr. Siebert's class at View
Ridge Elementary School are pressing forward in their admirable quest
to establish a nationwide celebration that will promote kindness, gift-giving, and graciousness (even to one's adversaries); and
WHEREAS, These selfless young people are setting a wonderful
example for the rest of us, encouraging a very special observance that
emphasizes cooperation, camaraderie, and good fellowship; and
WHEREAS, One has only to review a small sampling of the moving
lyrics to the beautiful Marchgivings song to understand the very
positive and good-spirited foundation that the View Ridge Elementary
School young people have built for their national campaign: "It's not
about getting, it's about giving/Marchgivings is a reason for
living/Marchgivings, it's good to give/Marchgivings is the time to live
YEAH"; and
WHEREAS, A little Marchgivings Day spirit surely promises big, big
rewards in one's life at home and abroad; and
WHEREAS, If only this powerful View Ridge Elementary School
community spirit and esprit de corps could sweep across our great land,
perhaps one day we would see an end to hurtful backbiting, partisan
wrangling, and mutually ruinous hostility;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
of the State of Washington salute Marchgivings Day, and especially
honor the sisterly and brotherly sincerity of the young people in Ira
Siebert's fifth-grade class at View Ridge Elementary School; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be
immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of
Representatives to View Ridge Elementary School, and to the Everett
Public Schools.
