TO THE HONORABLE DOUGLAS B. MACDONALD, SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION,
AND TO THE WASHINGTON STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION, AND TO THE
WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION:
We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of
the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully
represent and petition as follows:
WHEREAS, The Washington National Guard has served Washington and
this nation in war and in peace since 1885; and
WHEREAS, The Washington National Guard served during World War I
and World War II; and
WHEREAS, In 1980 Washington National Guard members were involved in
support and recovery during the eruption of Mount St. Helens; and
WHEREAS, In 1990-1991, the Washington National Guard was involved
in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm; and
WHEREAS, In 1997-2000, Washington National Guard members were
deployed to Bosnia, Kosovo, and Macedonia as part of Operation Joint
Guardian; and
WHEREAS, As a state agency, the Washington National Guard protects
citizens, their property, and the environment; and
WHEREAS, The Washington National Guard assists emergency responders
on search and rescue operations, wildfire mobilizations, and in other
emergency situations; and
WHEREAS, The Washington National Guard provides trained military
units for national defense; and
WHEREAS, Currently Washington National Guard men and women are
deployed across the nation and in ten other countries; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of Washington are grateful and extremely
proud of the services of the Washington National Guard; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of Washingtonians have served or are currently
serving with the Washington National Guard and deserve recognition for
their accomplishments in serving this state and the country;
NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the
Washington State Transportation Commission commence proceedings to name
State Route Number 2 from the City of Everett to the eastern border of
Washington State, a distance of 326 miles, the "Washington National
Guard Highway," and to erect appropriate signs at key locations and
major interchanges indicating to the traveling public the name of the
highway.
BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately
transmitted to the Honorable Douglas B. Macdonald, Secretary of
Transportation, and to the Washington State Transportation Commission,
and to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
