AN ACT Relating to the establishment of the Washington trade corps fellowship program; and creating new sections.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1 The legislature finds that in order to
promote international trade and enhance the work of Washington's
international trade offices, college and graduate students should be
provided an opportunity to gain experience in international trade by
assisting Washington businesses enter foreign markets.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2 (1) The department of community, trade, and
economic development shall research alternative funding sources for the
purpose of instituting an international trade corps fellowship program
in collaboration with other public and private entities, including, but
not limited to, the international programs at institutions of higher
education.
(2) The department shall submit a report to the legislature by
December 1, 2007, with recommendations regarding instituting an
international trade corps fellowship program without the use of state
general fund moneys. The report should also include recommendations
regarding the number of fellows participating each year, the cost of
administrating the program, and the criteria for the selection of
candidates.
