On page 2, after line 7, insert the following:
"Sec. 3. RCW 28A.230.050 and 2006 c 263 s 416 are each amended to read as follows:
All high schools of the state shall emphasize the work of physical education, and carry into effect all physical education requirements established by rule of the superintendent of public instruction: PROVIDED, That individual students may be excused from participating in physical education otherwise required under this section on account of physical disability, employment, or religious belief, or because of participation in directed athletics or military science and tactics or for other good cause. A student may satisfy the fitness portion of any high school graduation requirement for physical education by participating in a structured lettering sports program and receiving a signed waiver from the student's coach, parent or guardian, and principal stating that the student has satisfied the graduation requirement."
Renumber the remaining section consecutively and correct the title.
EFFECT: Provides that a high school student who participates in school sports will satisfy the fitness portion of PE graduation credits if the student's coach, parent, and principal sign a waiver to that effect.
