On page 49, after line 26, insert the following:
"NEW SECTION. Sec. 503 A new section is added to chapter 7.68
RCW to read as follows:
When an offender receives services while the offender is under the
jurisdiction of the department of corrections for an offense committed
on or after the effective date of this act, any person who was the
victim of the offense for which the offender was sentenced is entitled
to receive services that are equivalent to those provided to the
offender. The services to which the victim is entitled include, but
are not limited to substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment,
educational programs, and housing of an equivalent duration to that
provided to the offender. These services shall be provided to the
victim in addition to any restitution owing to the victim. The victim
shall be notified by the prosecutor of his or her rights under this
section."
Renumber the remaining sections consecutively and correct any internal references accordingly.
EFFECT: Requires a victim to be provided with services that are
equivalent to those provided to the offender while the offender is
under the jurisdiction of DOC.
Requires the prosecutor to notify the victim of his or her right to
receive services equivalent to those provided to the offender.
