   On page 4, beginning on line 7, strike all of subsection (27) and insert the following:

   "(27) "Refrigeration work" means to design, fabricate, construct, install, replace, repair, modify, service, or perform other mechanical work on refrigeration systems."

   On page 7, after line 11, insert the following:

   "NEW SECTION. Sec. 5. TEMPORARY EXEMPTION FROM CERTIFICATION.

   (1) The provisions of section 3(1) of this act do not apply to a person performing refrigeration work on food product refrigeration using class A1 refrigerants.

   (2) This section expires June 30, 2013."

   Renumber the sections consecutively and correct any internal references accordingly.

 On page 7, line 22, strike all of subsection (2) and insert the following:

   "(2) Refrigeration specialty mechanic I. A person issued a refrigeration specialty mechanic I certificate may perform refrigeration work on a refrigeration system with one or more compressors not exceeding ninety thousand BTUH or equivalent horsepower per compressor using class A1 refrigerants."

   On page 7, line 31, strike all of subsection (4) and insert the following:

   "(4) Refrigeration specialty mechanic II. A person issued a refrigeration specialty mechanic II certificate may perform refrigeration work on a refrigeration system with one or more compressors not exceeding two hundred forty thousand BTUH or equivalent horsepower per compressor using class A1 refrigerants."

   Renumber the sections consecutively and correct any internal references accordingly.

EFFECT: Modifies the definition of "refrigeration work" to include repairing, modifying, and performing other mechanical work on refrigeration systems.

   Adds a temporary exemption from mechanic certification  requirements, until June 30, 2013 for persons performing    refrigeration work on food product refrigeration.
