TO THE HONORABLE GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,
AND TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES, AND TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
UNITED STATES, IN CONGRESS ASSEMBLED:
We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of
the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully
represent and petition as follows:
WHEREAS, Essential government services are supported on the state
and federal level; and
WHEREAS, Essential government services and infrastructure in the
state of Washington, including education, health care, and
transportation are supported by both state and federal governments; and
WHEREAS, Congress could ease the burden on taxpayers of the state
of Washington and taxpayers in all the United States by restricting
certain federal income tax deductions for professional sports teams;
NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the United
States Congress restrict the federal income tax deduction for the
losses of professional sports teams in order to provide that no losses
incurred by professional sports team owners shall be used to offset
gains or income from other business operations, or other sources of
personal income.
BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately
transmitted to the Honorable George W. Bush, President of the United
States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the
House of Representatives, and each member of Congress from the State of
Washington.
