AN ACT Relating to providing medical coverage for smoking cessation programs; adding a new section to chapter 74.09 RCW; and creating a new section.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1 A new section is added to chapter 74.09 RCW
to read as follows:
The department shall provide coverage under this chapter for
smoking cessation counseling services, as well as prescription and
nonprescription agents when used to promote smoking cessation, so long

drug" in 42 U.S.C. Sec. 1396r-8(k). However, the department may
initiate an individualized inquiry and determine and implement by rule
appropriate coverage limitations as may be required to encourage the
use of effective, evidence-based services and prescription and
nonprescription agents. The department shall track per-capita
expenditures for a cohort of clients that receive smoking cessation
benefits, and submit a cost-benefit analysis to the legislature on or
before January 1, 2012.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2 If specific funding
for the purposes of this
act, referencing this act by bill or chapter number, is not provided by
June 30, 2008, in the omnibus appropriations act, this act is null and
void.
