Brief Description: Authorizing Washington pharmacies to fill prescriptions written by advanced registered nurse practitioners in other states or in certain provinces of Canada.

Background:

It is unlawful for any person, including a licensed Pharmacist, to sell, deliver, or possess any legend drug (i.e., a drug that may be dispensed by prescription only) except pursuant to a prescription issued by one of the following health care professionals licensed in Washington:

Additionally, a person may lawfully sell, deliver, or possess a legend drug pursuant to a prescription issued by the following professionals in another state or British Columbia:

Summary of Bill:

A person may lawfully sell, deliver, or possess any legend drug pursuant to a prescription issued by a licensed Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in another state or British Columbia.

Appropriation: None.

Fiscal Note: Requested February 15, 2010.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.
