WHEREAS, The South Kitsap High School Marching Band from Port
Orchard, Washington was selected to represent the State of Washington
in the 121st Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California on
January 1, 2010; and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Mr. Gary Grams, the South Kitsap
High School Marching Band was selected to attend on the basis of
superior performance ratings and recommendations from state and local
music educators; and
WHEREAS, A successful marching band requires a great deal of
dedication, practice, and self-discipline; and
WHEREAS, The life-long lessons that these students have learned
while perfecting their skills will continue to benefit them later in
life as they confront the challenges of college and a career; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to set aside time to recognize the
talent and dedication of each member of this marching band, who have
earned a reputation for excellence and whose performances bring great
credit to themselves, their families, their school, their community,
and their state;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
commend and celebrate this accomplishment of the South Kitsap High
School Marching Band; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be
immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of
Representatives to South Kitsap High School, the South Kitsap High
School Marching Band, and entered into the record as an example of
extracurricular excellence in our schools.
