    On page 1, beginning on line 5, strike all of section 1

 

    Renumber the remaining sections consecutively and correct any internal references accordingly.

 

    On page 2, line 28, after "28A.155.045," strike "section 1 of this act" and insert "subsection (4)(b) of this section"

 

    On page 3, line 13, after "(4)" insert "(a)"

 

    On page 3, after line 26, insert the following:

    "(b) Beginning with the graduating class of 2014 and through the graduating class of 2016, students may graduate from high school without earning a certificate of academic achievement or a certificate of individual achievement if they:

    (i) Have not successfully met the science standard on the statewide high school science assessment, an approved objective alternative assessment, or an alternate assessment developed for eligible special education students;

    (ii) Have successfully met the state standard in the other content areas required for a certificate under this section or RCW 28A.155.045;

    (iii) Have met all other state and school district graduation requirements; and

    (iv) Successfully earn, after the school year in which they took the statewide high school science assessment for the first time, one high school science credit or credit that integrates science with technology, engineering, or mathematics, including career and technical course equivalents or courses offered at skill centers, that is intended to increase the student's science proficiency toward meeting or exceeding the science standards assessed on the statewide high school science assessment."

 

    On page 7, line 11, after "28A.655.0611 and" strike "section 1 of this act" and insert "28A.655.061(4)(b)"

 

    Correct the title.

 

 

    EFFECT:  Makes the provision that allows the Classes of 2014 through 2016 to graduate without a Certificate of Academic Achievement or Certificate of Individual Achievement by taking an additional science class into an amendment to current law instead of a new section.  Corrects cross-references to this provision.
