On page 2, beginning on line 20, after "(4)" strike all material through "deaf." on line 24 and insert "By December 31, 2013, the professional educator standards board shall recommend to the education committees of the house of representatives and the senate, how to appropriately use the national interpreter certification and the educational interpreter performance assessment for educational interpreters in Washington public schools."
EFFECT: Removes the requirement for educational interpreters
employed by school districts to achieve by the 2019-20 school year the
national interpreter certification of the National Association of the
Deaf and Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Adds the requirement that the Professional Educator Standards Board
must recommend to the legislative education committees the appropriate
use of the National Interpreter Certification and Educational
Interpreter Performance Assessment for educational interpreters in
Washington's public schools.
