On page 2, after line 32, insert the following:
"(8) If the health care provider believes that the patient's injury
could be the result of domestic violence, the hospital must alert a
case manager, social worker, domestic violence advocate, or other
patient advocate to coordinate with the law enforcement officer who
responds to the report required by this section. The law enforcement
officer and case manager, social worker, domestic violence advocate, or
other patient advocate must determine whether there should be a delay
in contact with the patient, suspect, or other witness to assist the
patient in ensuring his or her safety or the safety of the patient's
family."
EFFECT: In cases of suspected domestic violence, law enforcement must coordinate with the patient's case manager, social worker, domestic violence advocate, or other patient advocate to determine whether there should be a delay in contact and provide time for the patient to ensure his or her own safety or the safety of the patient's family.
