On page 8, beginning on line 18, after "chapter.))" strike all
material through "their use." on line 24 and insert "Producers in
compliance with section 2 of this act must provide shelf display
signage to any person who sells fluorescent lamps at retail for
residential customers. The signage must contain the following notice
in twenty-four point type or larger in a manner clearly visible to a
consumer examining fluorescent lamps offered for sale:
"Fluorescent bulbs save energy and reduce environmental pollution.
CAUTION: Fluorescent bulbs contain a small amount of mercury and toxic
mercury vapor is released if bulbs are broken and the vapor released
into the air. This is especially a problem in warm or poorly
ventilated indoor air. Symptoms of inhaling mercury vapors can include
nausea, respiratory problems, tremors, numbness in the fingers and
toes, loss of muscle control, memory loss, kidney disease, and heart
problems. Some of these effects can be reversible if the exposure
stops. However, memory problems can be permanent."
EFFECT: Requires producers to arrange for signage display at retail outlets and to include information on the signage regarding the specific health risks regarding exposure to mercury from broken lamps.
