Brief Description: Modifying when to display vehicle headlights.

Brief Summary of Bill

  • Increases the distance from 1,000 feet to 2,000 feet when, due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles are not discernable to use a vehicle's headlights, other lights, and illuminating devices as required for the different classes of vehicles.

Background:

A vehicle on the state highways must display headlights, other lights, and illuminating devices as required for different classes of vehicles a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise. When due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles are not discernable at a distance of 1,000 feet ahead must also use the vehicle's headlights, other lights, and illuminating devices. Other vehicle lights such as stop lights, turn signals and other signaling devices must be used as prescribed in state law.

Summary of Bill:

The bill increases the distance from 1,000 feet to 2,000 feet when due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, persons and vehicles are not discernable to use a vehicle's headlights, other lights, and illuminating devices as required for the different classes of vehicles.

Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.
