AN ACT Relating to placement of ballot drop boxes; and adding a new section to chapter 29A.40 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1   A new section is added to chapter 29A.40 RCW to read as follows:
     County auditors must place ballot drop boxes at various locations throughout the county. Ballot drop boxes may be placed inside a building or outdoors. At a minimum, ballot drop boxes must be placed at the following locations:
     (1) Institutions of higher education at a ratio of one drop box for every three thousand students;
     (2) School district headquarters; and
     (3) High schools.
     County auditors must consider locating ballot drop boxes at shopping malls; state, city, and county offices; private buildings; and other sites considered to be convenient locations.
