Title: An act relating to the superior court judges' association.

Brief Description: Concerning the superior court judges' association.

Sponsors: Senators Padden and Pedersen.

Brief History:

Committee Activity: Law & Justice: 1/28/16, 2/03/16 [DP].

SENATE COMMITTEE ON LAW & JUSTICE

Majority Report: Do pass.

Signed by Senators Padden, Chair; O'Ban, Vice Chair; Pedersen, Ranking Minority Member; Darneille, Frockt, Pearson and Roach.

Staff: Melissa Burke-Cain (786-7755)

Background: The Legislature established the superior court judges' association by statute in 1933 as the "association of the superior court judges of the state of Washington". Over time, through long and regular usage, the association has become known as "the superior court judges' association." Not all statutory references to the association are consistent in the RCW.

Summary of Bill: References to "the association of superior court judges" are not completely consistent in the RCW. The association's long-standing commonly used name "the superior court judges' association" replaces "the association of superior court judges" throughout the RCW.

Appropriation: None.

Fiscal Note: Not requested.

Committee/Commission/Task Force Created: No.

Effective Date: Ninety days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.

Staff Summary of Public Testimony: PRO: This bill will standardize the name used in the statutes so all references to the association are uniform and are the name currently used for the association.

Persons Testifying: PRO: Tom Parker, Superior Court Judges' Assn.

Persons Signed In To Testify But Not Testifying: No one.
