Background: Nurse Licensure. The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission is responsible for licensure, license renewal, and discipline of registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNPs). To receive an RN, LPN, or ARNP license, an applicant must:
successfully complete an approved nursing education program;
successfully pass a licensure examination; and
submit the required documentation.
The commission requires, in rule, that applicants for licensure and renewal complete all demographic data elements of the application and attest to the completion of those data elements.
Summary of Bill: The commission may not condition licensure or license renewal on the submission of demographic or other survey data not directly connected to the practice of nursing.

Effective Date: Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
