Background: Retailers may currently not sell or give tobacco or vapor products to anyone under the age of eighteen years old. The Health & Long Term Care Committee heard Senate Bill 5057, which would prohibit the sale of tobacco and vapor products to anyone under the age of twenty-one years old. The committee adopted an amendment to the bill stating if passed, a joint memorial would be transmitted to the federal government upon passage of Senate Bill 5057 and signature by the Governor.
Summary of Joint Memorial: Upon passage of Senate Bill 5057, and signature by the Governor, a joint memorial must be transmitted to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, urging federal legislation prohibiting the sale of tobacco and vapor products to anyone under the age of twenty-one years old.
