HB 1827 - DIGEST

Provides that adult family homes may only admit prospective residents if the home determines that the needs of the resident can be met and the prospective resident is not likely to pose a substantial risk to the health, welfare, and safety of another resident.

Requires a person who has been convicted of a serious violent offense or sex offense to disclose to the adult family home details of the person's criminal history before admission to an adult family home. If admitted to the adult family home, the adult family home must provide this information to the residents of the facility.

Requires a person who is required to register as a sex offender to notify the appropriate county sheriff before being admitted to an adult family home. The county sheriff must notify the adult family home and deliver a fact sheet about the person to the adult family home.

Requires adult family homes to notify the department of social and health services if a person who has been convicted of a serious violent offense or a sex offense is going to be admitted to the adult family home. This notice must include an assessment of how the admission and care of the person will not compromise the health, safety and welfare of other residents or security of the home.

Requires the department of social and health services to determine the location of licensed adult family homes.
