On page 2, line 29, after "chapter" strike "44.04" and insert "43.01"

On page 3, line 8, after "(3)" insert "Members may not be denied the use of auxiliary aids, interpreters, communication partners who will act as support for the member, or other accommodations of their choosing necessary to assist the member in effective communication and meaningful participation in the activities of the statutory entity. A member requiring the assistance of a communication partner may not be denied the use a communication partner of their choosing.

Renumber the remaining subsection consecutively and correct any internal references accordingly.

On page 3, line 11, after "(4)" strike all material through ""statutory" and insert "For the purposes of this section:

(a) "Disability" includes but is not limited to disabilities listed under RCW 49.60.040; and

(b) "Statutory"

On page 4, after line 19, insert the following:

"NEW SECTION. Sec. 4. A new section is added to chapter 44.04 RCW to read as follows:

Any statutory entity, as defined in section 2 of this act, of the legislature is subject to the requirements in section 2 of this act.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 5. This act applies prospectively only and not retroactively. It applies only to the causes of action that arise or that are commenced on or after the effective date of this section. This act does not apply to statutory entities that have been created in or mandated by law which has been enacted prior to the effective date of this section."

Renumber the remaining section.

Correct the title.

EFFECT:   Prohibits a member of a statutory entity from being denied the use of auxiliary aids, interpreters, communication partners who will act as support for the member, or other accommodations of their choosing to assist the member in effective communication and meaningful participation in the activities of the statutory entity.

Defines "disability" as a disability included but not limited to those listed in the Washington Law Against Discrimination.

Includes a prospective clause and states that the act does not apply to statutory entities that have been created in or mandated by law which has been enacted prior to the effective date of this act.

Corrects codification instructions and adds a corresponding cross reference.
