On page 3, line 23, after "shall," strike "by November 1, 2029" and insert "in the first substantive code update to the state building code that occurs after January 1, 2028, pursuant to RCW 19.27.031 and RCW 19.27.032"

On page 5, line 18, after "Until" strike "90 days after the completion of an optional code pursuant to subsection (4)" and insert "one year after the adoption of the code pursuant to subsection (1)"

On page 5, line 35, after "RCW 43.30.580." strike "Six months" and insert "((Six months)) One year"

On page 5, line 39, after "section" insert "or utilize provisions of the International Wildland Urban Interface Code adopted pursuant to RCW 19.27.031 to modify the maps"

On page 6, line 24, after "cities" strike ", with the approval of the local fire marshal,"

On page 6, line 27, after "constraints." insert "Jurisdictions with a local fire marshal shall consult with the local fire marshal."

EFFECT:

Removes the requirement that the State Building Code Council (SBCC) adopt the International Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Code by November 1,2029 and instead requires the SBCC to adopt the WUI code in the first substantive code update to the State Building Code that occurs after January 1, 2028.

Allows counties, cities, and towns to adopt the WUI Code, in whole or in part, until one year after the SBCC adopts the WUI Code, rather than 90 days after the adoption of an optional code.

Requires any map adopted by counties, cities, and towns to utilize the same criteria as the statewide maps one year after the statewide maps are adopted, rather than six months, or to utilize provisions of the WUI Code to modify the maps.

Removes the requirement that counties and cities have the approval of the local fire marshal to adopt local amendments to the WUI code and instead requires counties and cities with a local fire marshal to consult with the local fire marshal.
