EFFECT: Removes language requiring: 1) a background investigation for a person seeking appointment to the office of police chief or marshal to be completed no earlier than six months prior to the date of appointment; and 2) the appointing authority to submit verification to the Criminal Justice Training Commission that the applicant meets eligibility criteria and was not determined to be unsuitable for employment by a law enforcement agency or to serve in the office of police chief or marshal. Removes language providing that the appointing authority is responsible for any fees associated with the background investigation.
