EFFECT: Removes language providing that: 1) prior to appointing a person as sheriff, police chief, or marshal, the employing agency must attest to the Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) that the agency has received or conducted a completed background investigation and that the applicant was determined under CJTC rules to be suitable for the position; 2) applicants determined by the background investigation to have engaged in conduct meeting decertification criteria must be considered unsuitable for employment as a peace officer; and 3) persons filing for candidacy for the elected office of sheriff must, by the filing deadline, have submitted the request for a background investigation and an attestation that the candidate meets eligibility requirements.
