WHEREAS, On February 8, 2026, the Seattle Seahawks capped their historic season and won the second NFL championship in the team's 50-year history by defeating the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California; and

WHEREAS, The Seahawks were led by a dominant defense and a balanced offense that controlled the line of scrimmage and tempo of the game, with running back Kenneth Walker III earning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player honors after a powerful rushing performance and Jason Myers breaking a Super Bowl record by kicking five field goals and becoming the first player in NFL history to score over two hundred points in a single season; and

WHEREAS, The Seahawks' victory in Super Bowl LX was especially sweet for "the 12s," professional football's loudest, most loyal, and most dedicated fan base, known for disrupting opposing offenses and causing them to false start, including during Super Bowl LX, because it was vindication for the bitter and heartbreaking loss to the same New England Patriots franchise in Super Bowl XLIX eleven years ago, after which the Seahawks have failed to appear in, let alone win, the Super Bowl or even the NFC Championship; and

WHEREAS, In capturing the poetry and significance of the Seahawks' triumphant return to glory, the front page headline of the February 9, 2026, edition of The Seattle Times consisted of a single word, "REDEMPTION!" above a photograph of linebacker Uchenna Nwosu kneeling in the end zone with his arms and head lifted towards the sky holding the football he had just intercepted and returned 46 yards for the Seahawks final touchdown of Super Bowl LX; and

WHEREAS, Wide receiver Cooper Douglas Kupp, a native of Yakima, Washington, a graduate of A.C. Davis High School and Eastern Washington University, has distinguished himself as one of the most accomplished players of his generation by earning Super Bowl LVI's Most Valuable Player honors and leading this year's championship Seahawks as a captain and playmaker throughout the season, including key receptions in both the 2026 NFC Championship and Super Bowl, while always exhibiting discipline, humility, and perseverance and serving as a source of enduring pride and inspiration for Yakima and all of Washington state; and

WHEREAS, Right tackle Abraham "Abe" Lucas, an Everett, Washington, native and Archbishop Murphy High School and Washington State University alumnus and Seahawks starter helped turn around the offensive line this year and contributed to a significantly improved run game and pass protection scheme that unleashed one of the most prolific offenses of the 2025 NFL season, while exemplifying both elite professional achievement and the development of local Washington football talent; and

WHEREAS, Quarterback Sam Darnold delivered a Pro Bowl season punctuated by a clutch playoff run where he threw for 672 yards and five touchdowns with zero interceptions and finished with an exceptional 102.4 passer rating across the three games, providing steady leadership, efficiency, and poise while guiding the Seahawks' offense through critical moments in both the regular season and postseason; and

WHEREAS, Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerged as one of the National Football League's premier offensive players, earning AP Offensive Player of the Year honors and breaking multiple Seahawks' records, including DK Metcalf's single-season receiving yards record and Steve Largent's record for most 100-yard receiving games in a season, and serving as a consistent and decisive playmaker throughout the regular season and playoffs; and

WHEREAS, The Seahawks' success was anchored by the league's best defense that included Pro Bowlers DeMarcus Lawrence, Leonard Williams, and Devon Witherspoon and amplified by some of the league's best special teams units that included Pro Bowler Rashid Shaheed and punter Michael Dickson, who landed three punts inside the 10-yard line during Super Bowl LX; and

WHEREAS, Owner Jody Allen, General Manager John Schneider, and the entire Seahawks front office provided exceptional leadership, professionalism, and vision by hiring a coaching staff and building a team that blended veteran experience with emerging talent and enabled Head Coach Mike Macdonald's "People-First," "Mission Over BS" locker room culture to be built on the core principles of brotherhood, truth, work, and physicality that translated directly into on-field success; and

WHEREAS, The Seahawks' championship season elevates Washington's national and international profile and underscores the importance of Coach Macdonald's emphasis on consistency, standards, faith, purpose, authenticity, accountability, and continuous growth values that extend beyond athletics and serve as enduring examples for individuals, families, and institutions across the state; and

WHEREAS, The Seahawks' Super Bowl victory represents not only a crowning achievement for the franchise, but also a shared moment of pride and unity for Washingtonians of every political persuasion and all walks of life from every corner of our great state; and it inspires our young people to pursue physical fitness, teamwork, discipline and healthy competition, reinforcing habits that contribute to lifelong well-being and professional and personal success;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor and commend the Seattle Seahawks organization for winning Super Bowl LX and for an extraordinary season defined by excellence, perseverance, and teamwork; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the players, coaches, and staff of the Seattle Seahawks for their individual and collective contributions to this historic achievement; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Seattle Seahawks organization to convey the congratulations and appreciation of the House of Representatives.
