AN ACT Relating to elected officials' salaries; and amending RCW 43.03.010.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
Sec. 1. Section 43.03.010, chapter 8, Laws of 1965 as last amended by section 3, chapter 29, Laws of 1983 1st ex. sess. and RCW 43.03.010 are each amended to read as follows:

Effective ((July 1, 1979)) January 1, 1987, the annual salaries
of the following named state elected officials shall be: Governor, ((fifty-eight))
seventy-four thousand nine hundred dollars; lieutenant governor, ((twenty-six))
forty-one thousand ((eight)) two hundred dollars plus a
sum equal to 1/260th of the difference between the annual salary of the
lieutenant governor and the annual salary of the governor for each day that the
lieutenant governor is called upon to perform the duties of the governor by
reason of the absence from the state, removal, resignation, death, or
disability of the governor; secretary of state, ((twenty-eight)) forty-two
thousand ((nine)) four hundred dollars; state treasurer, ((thirty-four))
forty-six thousand ((eight)) four hundred fifty
dollars; state auditor, ((thirty-four)) forty-six thousand ((eight))
four hundred fifty dollars; attorney general, ((forty-four))
fifty-five thousand four hundred fifty dollars; superintendent of
public instruction, ((forty)) fifty-three thousand three
hundred dollars; commissioner of public lands, ((forty)) fifty-three
thousand three hundred dollars; state insurance commissioner, ((thirty-four))
forty-six thousand ((eight)) four hundred fifty
dollars. Members of the legislature shall receive for their service ((nine))
thirteen thousand ((eight)) seven hundred fifty
dollars per annum((, effective January 8, 1979)); and in addition, ten
cents per mile for travel to and from legislative sessions.

Effective July 1, ((1980)) 1989, the annual salaries of the
following named state elected officials shall be: Governor, ((sixty-three))
eighty-six thousand eight hundred dollars; lieutenant governor,
((twenty-eight)) fifty-three thousand ((six)) eight
hundred dollars plus a sum equal to 1/260th of the difference between the
annual salary of the lieutenant governor and the annual salary of the governor
for each day that the lieutenant governor is called upon to perform the duties
of the governor by reason of the absence from the state, removal, resignation,
death, or disability of the governor; secretary of state, ((thirty-one))
fifty-three thousand eight hundred dollars; state treasurer, ((thirty-seven))
fifty-five thousand ((two)) seven hundred dollars; state
auditor, ((thirty-seven)) fifty-five thousand ((two)) seven
hundred dollars; attorney general, ((forty-seven)) sixty-three
thousand ((one)) eight hundred dollars; superintendent of public
instruction, ((forty-two)) sixty-three thousand eight hundred
dollars; commissioner of public lands, ((forty-two)) sixty-three
thousand eight hundred dollars; state insurance commissioner, ((thirty-seven))
fifty-five thousand ((two)) seven hundred dollars.
Members of the legislature shall receive for their service ((eleven)) sixteen
thousand ((two)) six hundred dollars per annum, effective January
((12, 1981)) 1, 1987, ((twelve)) nineteen thousand four
hundred dollars per annum effective January 1, ((1982)) 1988,
((twelve)) twenty-two thousand ((eight)) one
hundred ((fifty)) dollars effective January ((10, 1983)) 1,
1989, ((and thirteen)) twenty-five thousand ((seven
hundred fifty)) dollars effective January 1, ((1984)) 1990;
and in addition, reimbursement for mileage for travel to and from legislative
sessions as provided in RCW 43.03.060. On January 1, 1991, and each January
1 thereafter, the annual salary of members of the legislature shall be adjusted
upward to reflect changes subsequent to the previous salary adjustment in the
implicit price deflator or equivalent measure as published by the bureau of
economic analysis, United States department of commerce. The adjustment shall
be calculated, rounding to the nearest one hundred dollars, by the director of
financial management.
