TO THE HONORABLE RONALD REAGAN, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, AND TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, AND TO THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES, IN CONGRESS ASSEMBLED, AND TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION:
We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:
WHEREAS, Small numbers of minority students participate in graduate studies despite efforts made to increase the numbers in recent years; and
WHEREAS, Minorities are particularly underrepresented in the fields of law, nursing, medicine, science, and engineering; and
WHEREAS, The National Commission on Student Financial Assistance in its report on graduate education in America has recommended that efforts be made to increase minority participation in graduate education;
NOW, THEREFORE, Your Memorialists respectfully pray that the Congress, the President, and the Department of Education take action to support and implement the recommendations of the National Commission on Student Financial Assistance, particularly as these recommendations apply to minority students; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately transmitted to the Honorable Ronald Reagan, President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Secretary of Education, and each member of Congress from the State of Washington.
