BACKGROUND:

Class G and J liquor licenses are special occasion licenses allowing a society or organization to sell beer and wine, respectively.  The fee is twenty dollars per day.

 Currently, if a license application is withdrawn or denied, the Liquor Control Board returns the license fee to the applicant. 

SUMMARY:

The fee for Class G and J special occasion liquor licenses is raised from twenty to thirty-five dollars per day.

 An applicant for an annual retail liquor license must pay a seventy-five dollar nonrefundable processing fee.  If the application is approved, the application fee is applied toward the license fee.

EFFECT OF SENATE AMENDMENT(S):  The text of HB 1293 is added:  The requirement that liquor license suspensions be marked on the license is eliminated, and a requirement is added that all conditions imposed by the Liquor Control Board when a license is issued must be listed on the license, along with other identifying information.

Revenue:    The bill has a revenue impact.

House Committee - Testimony For:      The Class G and J license fee increase makes those fees consistent with the Class K license fee and will help cover the costs of licensing. The nonrefundable application fee is needed to cover the time and effort expended when an application is denied or withdrawn.
