SYNOPSIS AS ENACTED
BACKGROUND:
Taxes payable on property qualifying for property tax exemption may be cancelled on a pro-rata basis for the remaining portion of the year from the date of exemption or conversion to exemption.
If taxes have already been paid for the period following the qualification for exemption the property tax payer is entitled to a refund.
SUMMARY:
The authority to cancel the pro-rata portion of taxes payable and to refund any taxes that may have been paid is eliminated for the year in which the property tax exemption is granted.
