SYNOPSIS AS ENACTED
BACKGROUND:
State law grants the director of the Department of Agriculture the general authority to prevent the spread of diseases in domestic and other animals in the state and to adopt rules and issue orders governing the inspection and testing of animals within the state or to be imported into the state. The director may also establish and enforce disease quarantines and embargoes.
SUMMARY:
The director of the Department of Agriculture will have the authority to regulate the sale, distribution, and use of veterinary biologics in the state. A veterinary biologic is a virus, serum, toxin or analogous product intended for use in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of diseases in animals. The director may adopt such rules to restrict the sale, distribution, or use of any veterinary biologic as the director deems necessary to protect the health and safety of animals and the public.
