BACKGROUND:
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee was established to provide advice to the Department of Ecology on all matters regarding solid and hazardous waste management. The committee consists of eleven members: The head of the department's solid waste division and ten additional members appointed by the director of the Department of Ecology. These members represent the interests of the public, local government, agriculture, industry, public health, and the refuse removal and resource recovery industries.
SUMMARY:
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee is directed to recommend to the governor a recipient for a "Governor's Award of Excellence". The award will be given annually for an outstanding achievement by an industry, company or individual in the area of hazardous waste or solid waste management.
