BACKGROUND:
Several companies are installing underground fiber optic cables throughout the state. Unlike some underground utilities, these cables are not usually encased in a pipe or cement and may be more vulnerable to disruption. No uniform practice for cable installation exists.
SUMMARY:
Underground fiber optic transmission lines are required to be installed in accordance with standards adopted by the Secretary of Transportation, in consultation with an advisory committee.
