AN ACT Relating to information about the prevention of acquired immune deficiency syndrome in the schools; adding a new section to chapter 28A.04 RCW; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.05 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28A.04 RCW to read as follows:
The state board of education by rule shall adopt guidelines for local school districts to follow in offering programs to students in grades six through twelve on the facts about acquired immune deficiency syndrome including methods of prevention.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 28A.05 RCW to read as follows:
School district boards of directors shall develop programs to be offered to students in grades seven through twelve about the facts on acquired immune deficiency syndrome including methods of prevention. The programs shall be consistent with guidelines adopted by the state board of education by rule under section 1 of this act. The programs may be incorporated into the regular curriculum. The board of directors may provide for programs about acquired immune deficiency syndrome disease to be offered to students in the sixth grade also.
