AN ACT Relating to teachers; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.67 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28A.67 RCW to read as follows:
The superintendent of public instruction shall adopt rules for a program for teachers supervising student teachers. The program shall provide:
(1) A stipend to teachers employed in public schools who are supervising student teachers. The supervising teacher shall receive one hundred dollars per month while supervising a student teacher in the teacher's classroom. The period of supervision by any one teacher of a particular student teacher shall not exceed one semester or quarter, as determined by the public or private institution of higher education which the student teacher is attending. The stipends shall not be deemed compensation for the purposes of salary lid compliance under RCW 28A.58.095 and the stipends shall not be subject to the continuing contract provisions of this title;
(2) Workshops for training supervising teachers;
(3) The use of substitutes to give the supervising teacher and the student teacher the opportunity to jointly observe and evaluate other teaching situations; and
(4) A supervising teacher to be a superior teacher based upon his or her evaluation and to hold a valid continuing certificate.
