AN ACT Relating to the processing of timber; adding a new section to chapter 79.01 RCW; prescribing penalties; and providing an effective date.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 79.01 RCW to read as follows:
(1) All timber harvested from state lands or otherwise sold by the state shall be primarily processed in the state.
(2) As used in this section, "primarily processed" means the stage of manufacture next beyond the log form of timber.
(3) A violation of this section is a misdemeanor. Each day a violation continues shall constitute a separate violation.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. This act shall take effect on the date a federal law takes effect authorizing a state to prohibit the exportation from the United States of any unprocessed logs harvested from lands owned or administered by the state.
