TO THE HONORABLE WILLIAM P. GERBERDING, PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON; TO THE HONORABLE SAMUEL H. SMITH, PRESIDENT OF WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY; AND TO THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF THOSE UNIVERSITIES:

          We, your Memorialists, the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Washington, in legislative session assembled, respectfully represent and petition as follows:

          WHEREAS, The annual Apple Cup Game is an event of great interest to the students, families, and friends of players and to Washington taxpayers in general; and

          WHEREAS, Records obtained from Washington State University and the University of Washington show sellout crowds for the six games televised live over the past ten years; and

          WHEREAS, Thousands of additional fans were not able to purchase tickets due to sellout crowds; and

          WHEREAS, The people of Washington have made sacrifices to support these two fine universities; and

          WHEREAS, Live television coverage of the Apple Cup would be a display of appreciation and a wonderful gift to the people of the state of Washington;

          NOW, THEREFORE, Your memorialists request that the university presidents and board members of the universities hereby addressed take such actions as are appropriate and possible to ensure that the annual Apple Cup Game between the universities receive live television coverage.

          BE IT RESOLVED, That copies of this Memorial be immediately transmitted to the Honorable William P. Gerberding, President of the University of Washington; the Honorable Samuel H. Smith, President of Washington State University; and to the members of the Boards of Trustees of those universities.
