AN ACT Relating to the superintendent of public instruction; and creating a new section.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. (1) In order to ensure the cost-efficient delivery of services and to prevent the duplication of efforts and programs with both private and public agencies, the legislative budget committee shall conduct a performance audit on the office of the superintendent of public instruction. Where possible, the legislative budget committee shall also identify private sector programs that duplicate state programs.
(2) The legislative budget committee shall report its findings to the senate and house of representatives ways and means committees at the beginning of the 1989 legislative session.
(3) The performance audit authorized in subsection (1) of this section shall be funded from the budget of the office of the superintendent of public instruction.
