AN ACT Relating to catheterization by public school employees; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.31 RCW.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.31 RCW to read as follows:

          Pursuant to rules adopted by the superintendent of public instruction or the school district, catheterization may be performed at a school by school district employees or the child requiring the catheterization.  The rules shall require that:

          (1) Persons performing catheterization have at least forty hours of training in catheterization procedures by a registered nurse or other qualified person;

          (2) The school records contain a written directive from a physician for each child receiving catheterization; and

          (3) A child ten years of age or older is assisted by a person of the same sex.
